Strategies to Assess and Meet Patient Care Needs

Every posted case in the General Operating Rooms is staffed with a minimum of two professional staff members: a scrub nurse/scrub technician and a circulating perioperative nurse. An Anesthesiologist cares for every patient, working closely with an anesthesiology resident or CRNA. General, regional, and monitored anesthesia care is available for all patients. The plan of care for anesthesia is discussed and agreed upon with every patient prior to the procedure. The attending surgeon is present and responsible for the supervision of the surgical procedure, as well as surgical residents during procedures. The surgeons are actively involved in preparing patients for their procedure by completing a history and physical, and informed surgical consent as well as surgical site marking as required. In addition, as required by the Joint Commission, Universal Protocol procedures are carried out by the perioperative staff during every case performed. Care is provided to every patient in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
